17/54 COLLABORATE | Uber Eats + Starbucks: Pumpkin Spice Makes Everything Nice

uber eats starbux

NOTATION: The idea is that Uber Eats collaborates with Starbucks as they roll out their fall menu items. Uber “facilitates” and “encourages” fall lovers to relax, get cozy, and enjoy. I came up with the idea Uber Eats + Starbucks: Pumpkin Spice Makes Everything Nice, a mock advertisement, and a written concept.

CONCEPT: Every Fall season, lovers of all things autumnal/Starbucks fans rejoice in the fall menu launch which Starbucks typically releases on the day of the Fall Equinox. It’s a primary facet of the multifaceted cult of autumn; the official starting point of PSLs and cozy sweaters. Uber Eats collaborates with Starbucks and hosts their fall menu on the Uber Eats app, found by clicking the 🎃 pumpkin spice emoji.

16/54 COLLABORATE | Uber Slow: Take It All In

uber slow logo

(HOVER OVER THE SETTINGS ICON TO TOGGLE VIDEO QUALITY TO HD)

NOTATION: The idea is to imagine an Uber service that “encourages” and “empowers” people to slow down and smell the roses. I created Uber Slow: Take It All In, a service of Uber Local, which features relaxed cyclo tours in the Old Quarters of Hanoi, Vietnam. I created a mock logo, video, written copy, and a collaboration concept.

PROTOTYPE | Uber Slow: Take It All In

High speed this, ultra definition that. Everything seems to be zooming along faster than the speed of light: cars, information highways, data transfers, communications, mega highways, assembly lines, chat relays, news cycles… Like we are all just chasing the rabbit, and it seems to never end.

That’s why we all need a little bit of Uber Slow in our lives. A long pause to take it all in. Enjoy the experience, savor the sounds, catch a whiff of a wild array of aromas, and linger upon the glimpses of people passing as if they were slowly drifting snowflakes. Only in Hanoi, Vietnam can you spend the afternoons as captain of your own Uber Slow cyclo exploring the Old Quarter district. Here lie the original 36 Streets of Hanoi filled with merchants, bustling city life, and ancient architecture curiously mingling with the new. Plus a bit of everything in-between. Take your time. After all, everyone knows the tortoise beat the hare.

UBER & GOPRO COLLABORATION: The first 500 travelers to book a trip to Hanoi, Vietnam and summon an Uber Slow cyclo win a low-profile GoPro BodyCam so you can enjoy your trip without having to look through the lens of a camera. Submit your Uber Slow footage to win cash rewards.

15/54 COLLABORATE | Uber Notes: We Tell the Truth

uber notes 3

handmade uber notes 2

NOTATION: The idea is to collaborate with a team of creators and think of ways to help remind city drivers that they can skip the stressful process of driving in traffic, looking for parking, paying for parking, and -worst of all – potentially running out of time on the meter only to receive a parking ticket after all of that!

CONCEPT: My idea for this collaboration is called Uber Notes: We Tell the Truth. Not only will Uber Notes “help” and “encourage” people to take an Uber, but it will also remind them of other Uber services and make “honest observations“. I wrote and assembled 9 Uber Notes for the prototype.

9 UBER NOTES:

  1. (left on beater) Your car has been around the block. He’s old, wise, and somewhat trustworthy. But right now he’s shaking his head and thinking “Realllyyy??! I can’t believe you put an extra 20 miles on me just to go pick up a carry-out artisanal sandwich from some bougie farm-to-table joint!”. Next time, do your old pal a favor and try Uber Eats delivery.
  2. (left on really nice car) We see you and your slick ride. Summon an Uber – save your baby from getting dinged and scraped up from close-quarter city parking. She’ll thank you later.
  3. (left on oversized SUV/van) Next time you’re not lugging around an entire soccer team or doing a massive grocery haul, treat yourself to a stress-free Uber ride. You deserve it.
  4. (left on moped/motorcycle) We totally get that you love the wind on your face and the open road. But next time the wind is being a dick and the roads are crap, just summon an Uber. We won’t tell a soul.
  5. (left on a commercial truck/vehicle) When you’re not hauling heavy loads, save some GA$ and take an Uber. First ride is on us.
  6. (left on a soft-shell Jeep Wrangler) Even the most rugged, most adventurous people out there can still enjoy not freezing their asses off. Next time the thermometer drops below 30 degrees, just call an Uber. Seriously. We won’t tell your buddies.
  7. (left on car parked in paid street parking) We saw you park this morning. It wasn’t pretty, and it *definitely* was not a 3-point parallel parking job. You probably scraped the car behind you. Don’t worry; we’ll keep mum. We just think you should consider joining an Uber Pool for your commute to work. Just saying.
  8. (left on car parked in paid street parking) Remember the opening scene in Office Space where Peter Gibbons and his co-workers are stuck in super stressful traffic? If you don’t, you should YouTube it right now. Anyways, that’s you. This is your life now. Or you could just take an Uber so you can sip your coffee and scroll Instagram in peace on the way to your terrible job. #choices
  9. (left on car parked in paid street parking) We put some money on your meter so you wouldn’t get a ticket on top of the $3 you already paid for parking. You’re welcome. Also, next time you should just save yourself the hassle and take an Uber. No more driving in traffic, looking for parking, paying for parking, or potential tickets. You’re welcome again.

12/54 FUTURE | Uber Portal: Don’t Blink

uber portal logo

(HOVER OVER THE SETTINGS ICON TO TOGGLE VIDEO QUALITY TO HD)

NOTATION: The idea is to envision an Uber collaboration in the future.

Uber Portal: Don’t Blink is a collaboration with NASA which provides the first-ever human transportation via magnetic portals. The concept is based on real life NASA research. I created a mock logo and a video which carries the mentor traits of “epic journeys” and “empowerment“, plus the message of what Uber could look like in the future.

11/54 SILENCE | Uber Tactile: We Help Get You There

uber tactile prototypeNOTATION: The idea is to create a custom transportation service tailored specifically for people living with impaired vision and/or blindness. Uber Tactile features transportation vans that are braille and tactile oriented for vision impaired clients with a focus on the silent but present mentor traits of “self-empowerment“, “helping“, and “encouragement“. I created a service concept, drawn prototype, and included my inspiration for this project.

PROTOTYPE CONCEPT: Using a combination of 3-D printing, unique textiles, braille, and audio Uber Tactile creates a custom travel experience for people living with vision impairment. We help you get there

FEATURES OF UBER TACTILE VANS:

  • Each van comes equipped with room for up to 3 passengers and 3 service animals.
  • The exterior of the car has labels on each door which say Uber Tactile and that label the door handle as well as the position of the door on the vehicle, all in braille (ex: front right passenger side door).
  • The van is wheelchair accessible with side ramp access for passengers.
  • The interior of the car is made of white 3-D printed textured plastic with different shapes, animals, and icons depicted in the raised surfaces for passengers to explore and experience.
  • The back of each seat has a welcome sign introducing the driver and listing the features of the service in braille.
  • Below the welcome sign is a quote cloud of positive, empowering, and uplifting sayings in braille.
  • Passengers have the option to listen to the turn-by-turn GPS directions from a small speaker in the rear so that they can know where they are at all times.
  • The rear trunk of the van has a ramp for service animal entry and enclosed bays for service animals to lay or sit in during the ride. Pet safety harnesses are available and optional to use.

INSPIRATION: Youtuber on the rise Molly Burke is one of the top voices on living with blindness online. This was inspired by her channel and her recent room makeover with Mr. Kate.

10/54 SILENCE//FUTURE | Directives Research

uber tactile inspiration copy
Silence & Future Mood Board

NOTATION: For this week the directives were Silence/Future/Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez. The idea is that I had no ideas so I decided to skip the Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez part and research Silence/Future which helped me to develop thoughts for the next 4 posts. I created a mood board for my thoughts and a summary of my research.

SILENCE RESEARCH:

Silence Definition: Silence is the absence of ambient audible sound, sounds of such low intensity they’re unnoticeable; the state of having ceased to produce sounds.

Silence in Danger: To social animals, including humans, silence can be interpreted as a distinct sign of danger.

Silence in Spirituality: Silence in spirituality is often a metaphor for inner stillness. Such silence and/or inner silence is about being in contact with one’s own true self, the divine, ultimate reality, and/or your divine nature.

Silence in Communication: Silence is used in social settings and/or conversations as contextual signifiers.

Silence in Science

  • A 2001 study defined a default mode of the brain termed “resting”. During rest periods the brain actively internalizes and evaluates information.
  • In a 2013 follow-up study, it was found that when the brain rests it integrates internal and external information to create a “conscious workspace”.
  • A lack of tasks, visual distractions, and audible noise creates an opportunity for the brain to rest.
  • It has also been found that silence can relieve stress and tension, as well as help to replenish cognitive resources.

“True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.” – William Penn

FUTURE RESEARCH:

Future Definition: (1a) Time that is to come. (1b) What is going to happen. (2) An expectation of advancement or progressive development. (3) Something bought/sold/traded for future acceptance of delivery.

New York Times Article, “We Weren’t Built to Live in the Moment” by Martin E.P. Seligman & John Tierney:

  • What separates homo sapiens from other species? Many things such as culture, use of tools, language, art, etc. have been proposed. So far none have been found to be unique to mankind alone.
  • What psychologists and neuroscientists are discovering in the 21st century is a unique trait to man: that we contemplate and build the future.
  • Our singular foresight has driven and created civilizations as well as sustained societies. The human power of prospection, looking into the future both consciously and unconsciously, is a central function of the human brain.

9/54 KINDERGARTEN | Uber Crafty Labs

uber craft prototype 2People Making Paper Flowers Craft Art Work HandicraftNOTATION: I focused on one of the things that I loved most as a kid: arts and crafts time at school and summer camp. A lot of us “grow out” of arts and crafts when we really shouldn’t, so for this project I focused on the mentor trait of “encouragement“. I imagined a service called Uber Crafty Labs, designed a mock logo, and wrote a prototype concept on the service features and goals.

PROTOTYPE CONCEPT: Uber Crafty Lab collaborates with and supports local hobby, art, craft, and scrapbooking shops where the craft labs are hosted. Craftys use the Uber Crafty app to register, sign up for Uber Pool to get to the lab events, and see upcoming crafting events. The Crafty Lab is for adults 21+ only, because who doesn’t want to mix glitter, pompoms, and pipe-cleaners with adult beverages?

Uber Crafty Labs hosts weekly craft night events with different themes like “pet rocks”, “googly-eyed monsters”, and “everything glitter” for adults of all types in order to encourage playfulness, community building, and creativity.
